OK, this is our first post on the subject that's gripped South Carolina politics for the last few weeks. We're a bit late.
But Politico features an interesting article about Nikki Haley's first "confessor" -- Will Folks. Folks, of course, is the former press secretary for Mark Sanford, and he now has a fairly popular blog (www.fitsnews.com) that focuses on Palmetto state politics. He's a libertarian-style Republican who calls most any other member of the GOP with whom he disagrees a RINO (Republican in Name Only). He had been Haley's ideological ally and, indeed, a consultant for her political ambitions. All this makes the claims that his allegations are nothing but "good ole boy" politics seem kind of weak.
In any case, this Politico article examines some interesting communications issues: the role of blogs in politics, the burden of proof in these sorts of scandals, the mainstream media's handling of this sort of scandal -- and, in this case, it's apparent inability to wrest the story from Folks and his blog.
Here's the article: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0610/38367.html
